I took off onto interstate today and the cruise would not set. I could turn it on and the cuise icon comes on the dash, but it would not set. I tried hitting all the buttons to see if I could get a result. I checked fuses, and there are no fault codes, I disconncted the batteries and hooked them back up and it still wont work. Any one have a cruise switch fail?

BMeier - what year is your truck? If it is an '03 - '04 or so it could be the vacuum pump on the passenger side fender well. These years used a small pump and some small (1/8"?) hard plastic line for the cruise control.

My truck had a small hole worn through the plastic line which was easily fixed by cutting through the line w/ a pocket knife and slipping a piece of small fuel line over as a patch. Has worked ever since.

So, check your plastic lines for a place where it has rubbed through.

Yeah, my truck is an 03', I checked the brake light switch and found no problems, but I did check the plastic line and it had rubbed through against the control module by the vacuum pump, I wrapped with electrical tape and the cruise worked. Is there a way to wire the cruise control switches to run the engine idle up like the newer ones?

The dealer flashed my '04 to enable the high idle with the cruise controls. Next time you're in have them flash it for you.

Barring that, I think the Smarty can enable high idle too. I don't know from experience but I think I remember seeing that somewhere.

The early 2003 trucks do not have the circuit to enable the high idle. Chrysler added it to the 03. 5 and up trucks
