Sent my Master Carpenter-in-Residence (MCIR) on a long haul over the weekend. He has a 3500 Ram with the "legendary" 6.4L HEMI. For 3 years, he has boasted and quarreled with First Husband about his power and strength, purporting to have equal if not greater towing capacity. Well, enter Crybaby, stage left: as he approached the Appalachian Mountains, apparently the HEMI squeels as it winds out with high RPMs up or downhill, towing a mere 7000 lbs. For my mainstream 2011 Cummins with the NOHO (no high output) 68POS, this would be like wearing a hat! But wait for it, this is after I just paid $8,500 for a new ATS Billet transmission rebuild! What the heck? Today, MCIR finally admits that there is no way in hell he can see his pathetic HEMI towing 13,000 lbs. It seems you have to have the thing revved to 1000 MPH to access the alleged power and towing capacity--not realistic on I81.

Yep, V8's scream to make power. I had three RAM/Cummins trucks and enjoy the power at low RPMs. DW was diagnosed with ALS in December and pass on July 5th. Along that route I sold the 2015 3500 SRW Laramie, as I could not transfer her from her wheel chair up into the tall truck. Her son and FIL bought our Ford Edge ST 2.7L V6 with 335/380 down to Arizona for us. I have now traded the EDGE ST for a F150 with the same 2.7L twin turbo tuned with 325 HP and 400 lb ft of torque and it makes it's HP and torque at low RPMs.

I considered a RAM 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi and the GM 1500 with 5.3, however my dealer gave me more than we paid for the Edge ST 15 months earlier and 2K off the F150. That same FIL that brought the Edge down for us use to manage this Ford dealership and help me with the transaction. As they say, the rest is history.

For the record we towed a 39' 5th wheel with the 2015 3500 at a combined weight of 24,500 lbs. Even with the 3.42 gears it did a great job towing. The Aisin help in get a load moving vs the 68RFE.

Howdy, fellas! We now find ourselves at Act II. CC cried so much with his haul, Act I, First Husband had to bail him out, as the "legendary" 6.4L HEMI is all cried out, allegedly overheating towing a mere 7000 lbs through the hills of PA. FH has hooked up with our '11 Cummins NOHO to bail him out. Boo-is Hoo-is!
