How difficult and expensive would it be to convert from a 6. 5 chevy diesel / NV-4500 to a CTD? I found a 97 P-30 Step van with a blown motor for $1000.

Has a 16k GVW. and 19. 5 Tires. Any advice??

The 5. 9's came in these trucks, along with the 3. 9 4 cylinders. I have seen them for sale with the 5. 9's in them for under $2000 running. Just depends how much you want to invest time wise into one. Most of the parts are available for these over the shelf. Grumman bodied vans are a good source as well for brackets etc.

If you have a 5. 9 to use, you're ahead of the game, if you're looking for one, try to find a wrecked dodge with an automatic in it, its worth less and the transmission is usually the part abused, not the engine.

Since its 2wd, you'll be dealing with a simple repower for the most part. Exhaust rerouting, motor mounts, radiator fitment check, being diesel, you should be able to just switch the fuel lines over without worrying about gauges, fuel drain, and a gas fuel pump in the tank to remove.

Most of it will be just fitting up the engine and scrapping the unneeded circuits, such as glow plugs and GM related garbage you'll not need. CUmmins requires a set of heater grid solenoids and three wire to run it from the truck besides battery cables and gauges.

You'll also need a bellhousing adapter to fit the GM NV-4500 up to the 5. 9, not to mention input shaft if you use the dodge flywheel, (highly recommended due to cost and availability) the input shaft for the dodge to GM nv-4500 is sold through Advance adapters in CA.

Expect a little better than 80 tp 100 hours to complete, depending on how in depth you make it. There is usually alot of room in the engine compartments of the p-30's so you'll have a better time than a GM pickup shoehorn wise.
