That design is nothing new, it was used in WWII diesel subs using the Fairbanks Morse 38.

Thanks for the history lesson, I had no idea.
It seems alot of early ideas that failed or had limited success has come full circle again.

Nick, I hear ya on the old tech, but when your in the sandbox across the pond that redundancy in drivetrains can be bliss. Need an injection pump? No problem, just go pull one off that rolled Humvee out back...:D
Parts scavaging takes place in the field quite a bit.

I hear that! So maybe we are just a few short years away from Cummins snagging an old idea from Mazda and developing a rotary, i.e. Wankel diesel...

Scavaging happens everywhere.All the rules say don,t..When your rookie Lt signs for comm gear that looked like it had been under the ocean for a week ....all 2 weeks before An IG inspection smfh
