Competition So you think you're quick off the line?

Was headed home last night from town when a late model PSD (3/4 ton, ext. cab, 4X2) pulled up beside me and goosed his throttle indicating he wanted to play :rolleyes: At the next stop light, we were side-by-side, so I rolled down my window and asked him "whatchya got in that thing?" "Banks Big Hoss," he said in a very cocky way. "Wow!" I said, "that thing's gotta run!" "It runs like a raped ape, you wanna race?" he said. I told him not in town. "Why not? Chicken?" he asked. I told him "I got too much too lose to be racing in town, let's head out on the four-lane out of town. " "OK" he says.

So he pulls ahead of me, and we head out of town. At every stop light he plants his right foot and spins his tires a bit, no doubt trying so scare me. :eek: I just ease along behind him til we get to the outskirst of town. He pulls into the truckstop and so do I. I ask him if he has a manual or auto. "Automatic," he says. "WoW! A Banks Big Hoss PSD with an automatic! I don't know if I can stay with you, I've got to shift!" I confess. ;) I ask him if he wants to race from a dead stop, rolling start, or from about 30mph up? "Whatever," he says, "I don't think it's going to matter. " :rolleyes: So we ease out to the highway until there are no lights coming from either direction, clear for at least a mile both ways, and we line up. His passenger counts to three and we hit it. To be honest, I was a bit dissappointed. I figured that he would jump me off the line, but I jumped him at the line, and he never caught up. By the time I hit 100, he was about 10 or more lengths behind. It could have been more than that, hard to tell at night, all I could see was fading headlights. I slowed down and he caught up. We raced again from a rolling start of about 30. This was going to be good, because I was in 3rd, and had some RPM. When we started, I jumped him a good length, and then when I hit fourth, my dually's tail started wagging. I bet that really rubbed salt in his hurting pride! Not only did I pull him hard, I was breaking traction and fish-tailing at about 50 mph! I love the power these things are capable of.

I slowed down and he caught up, and gave me the thumbs up. :cool: At least he took his ***** whooping pretty good! :-laf

LOL, GREAT STORY!!!!!!

KBennet:

The truck *usually* stays hooked up on the 3-4 shift, but on some occasions, when the street surface is just right, er,, or should I say wrong, it can get loose. A hard shift that shocks the driveline, plus some smooth pavement equals a slippery time! Anyway, I think the sight of the dually's big butt kickin out, boiling black fog, and leaving him helpless showed him his PSD "big hoss" was good for. :{

Just a little something about brands and truck guys on the "Other Brand" forums.

Dockboy comes on here, well respected, with a high horsepower truck and fellow diesel lover. He will throw punches about Dodges but jokingly.

Yet, if one of "us" were to go on TDS or whatever, and throw punches, even jokingly, no matter how high of numbers we are making, the Ford guys would make fun or ask for dyno sheets or just not believe it at all. I think that has something to say about TDR, that no matter what you drive, a friend is a friend. Sure, there are a few guys on TDS that drive both brands, or love the Cummins, but none welcome Dodge guys like we welcome Ford guys, well at least ONE Ford guy ;)

I think Dockboy is a Cummins man in a Ford lover's body :D

Thanks Nick... ... I think? !! LOL!!! :D

Hey, if it burns #2, it's cool with me regardless who makes it!!!! And those that have met me will tell you that is truely how I am! You will never see me, on any site, talking down about someone elses choice of diesel unless it's all in jest between friends. :-laf Hey, I smoke Cummins powered trucks everyday! :{ but you will never see me on TDS spouting off about it!

What I tend to find is the people with stock to lightly modded trucks of any brand seem to be the people that are the most closed minded and head strong about " X brand is the best, period!" :-{} Those that push the HP envelope understand that it can be a challenge regardless of what brand it is :eek: And to me, that is where the fun and comrodery comes in! I see way too many people on all forums spouting off about X brand is the best because look what so and so is doing, while they sit on there dead ***** behind a computer. I pay no attention to those types!! :-laf

I cruise around the Cummins and Duramax sites to let people know they can't just automaticlly walk all over any PSD :eek: In doing that, I have made tons of friends with all brands who enjoy diesels the same way I do! :D

if you think the truck sites are brand loyal try reading the snowmobile site posts, holy crap what them guys will tell you, there brand is best, fastest, no matter what you tell them or what gets proven otherwise. its sad.
Every brand has some pluses and minuses.

after I put my twins on my truck the only guy that has tried to play was in some tuner mustang, I figured I didnt hear supercharger wine so I was safe, I was right, that mustang did not stand a chance. he gave me a good run to about 60 mph, but thats when this truck starts to be fun. the next time I see him I'll try a 20psi start:-laf .
