1st oil change on our SHINNY 290 Generator with 2756 Luber-Finer filter, before I buy it I thought Id ask for thoughts on oil. Seeing as it sits un-used for the most part and then called into use in both HOT & COLD what oil to use for a yearly change of the 11 gal + luber-finer.

Big looks no one wanted in the great oil debate. I got to using John Deere oil about 10 years ago because a 55 gal drum of their 50 plus oil just showed up in my shop for the most part. After having the valve cover off of one engine that had over 100k miles of this oil run through it and how clean it was I was sold. It is designed for extended us and for equipment that sits around and then is run hard when it is used. In my opinion just what you are after. They have a couple of viscosity of it too so pick your best option.

Big, need more info.
What’s the temp range extremes?
What’s the total run time for a year, in hours?

Is the ol N14 you have mentioned?

I run it Monthly for at least a few hours 1800 RPM is where its sweet-spot is
its ran NON STOP for 28 HOURS on one occasion several others from 9 to 15 hours. Run time?? living in a sparsely populated agricultural area we'er prone to long outages as the town is the first priority

Temp as in Outside temp? is anywhere from -20* this year to 85*/90* with humidity.

NTC 290 Totally rebuilt by YOURS truly :D runs great!!!

Looked at it at the JD Dealer in town $340.00 for an oil change is a bit steep for me without filters

My reccomendation?
If it’s under 125 hours a year, just one annual major PM with best filters and basic 15/40 Dino will suffice. I might add a oil pan warmer for those -20* spurts.

Just looking at the Kats heater website at 11 gal its a good amount of oil to heat that way. When I was running my own truck I ran Delo 400 15/40 but rarely shut it off in the colder climates.

Yeah it is high but with some of the discounts I get and buying by the 55 gallon drum it is $10-11 a gallon for me.
that sounds better than the $26.00 a gal I was quoted
