my dad blew his s10 engine and i was thinking of swapping the cummins into it... . no ac on this truck and 2wd so thta is simple as for the transmission probably a allison 540... . and a 9" ford rear end...

im jsut worried about the fit in the front. how close im gonna be for a radiator ?. . and i think new coil springs in the front would be needed etc. .

any ideas. .

Deo,

Your sick man... . Real sick  :-laf

You would probably have to cut the firewall back to fit the motor & trans. Even if you used the 4 cylinder cummins. If I recall there isn't a whole heck of room in an s10.

Probably be cheaper to get a real truck ;)

We like it "Tight"

The 350 fits no problem (I've done six).

I have seen a 454 shoehorned in using all factory parts.

I'm thinkin' the Cummins is a little too tight.

The Dakota has been done but, with a HUGE firewall notch.

Best of luck, whatever you decide.

... you know that I would never be the one encouraging Deo to put a Cummins in his Dad's S-10.

We're both sick individuals. :D

One thing I see as a problem is that your Dad will have to take that big stuffed Bass off his grille..... we don't want our Cummins to overheat now do we?

Where there's a will, there's a way. Get out the oxy-acetylene and make sure you have about 1000' of mig wire... . we'll start on this project soon!

well the 350 idea is how this started as im geetting two donor vehicles a 87 s10 4wd with a gm 350 crate motor in it already and a 84 camaro with a 305 and 5spd. . the original plan was to take the 350 crate engine and its s10 motor mounts and put them into my dads truck and then take the 5spd from the camaro to hook it up and havde a driveshaft made up..... but then my local junk yard for trucks has a nice 'ol 5. 9L b series from a ford f 700 or 800 etc mummn

2 yrs ago at the englishtown diesel trucking national there was a new ford ranger stepside with a cummins and a 540 allison slapped in it . . had a narrowed dana 60 rear ran sweet like 12 secs and looked stock exept the guy had stretched the front end 4" ad did a real good job too ! look almost factory. . that was where my cummins idea came from. . mummn i'd be light and fast and get good mpg. . i wonder if streching the frame is that big of a deal the fender stretch is relatively easy, same with steering shaft and brake lines the hood is harder to do . . mummn any more ideas?

I'm all set with the turbo outlet. Don't need it now. I'll explain later  Thanks though and good luck w/ the s10.

I would think the tough part would be keeping it from tipping onto its nose and lifting the back tires off the ground.....

Why not mount the cummins in the bed... and make it front wheel drive?

go for it you got the time and space ain't no reason you can't make them mate up fiberglass tilt front end? go with a narrowed 60 and heavy front coils. jm2cw:D bill

I think I would take that crate engine and that 5spd and slap it in the chevy and sell it so as to get a buitifull little dakota to do the cummins swap into. The T-5 in that camero will bolt right up to a auto 350 turbo transmission mount and the drive shafts are the same length and spline, then I'd make some mounts and slap that crate motor in there and paint the little sh**ty oops soory I meant chevy. Then i would find the first stupid kid who saw fast and the furious who thinks he needs to be speed racer sell it to him for a tidy little profit considering the mere two weekends work you'll have into it and buy a nice little dakota to go out and spank him in so you can really embarase him when you explain it's a diesel!!!

Have fun and good luck Seth

good point considering the two donor vehicles cost a total of $400 bucks i think i'd be nuts not to do it ha... yeah may be we can sell and get my dad a nice first gen ?... . mummn matt sound cool?... later

I think I should just sell your Dad my 2nd Gen... . I only drive it once a week! :D

The gasser would be sorta potent and have a little bit of 'cool' factor, but getting that sucker to pass NY emissions for a '95 S-10 may be a little tricky... .

You know me... I'm all for any engine swap project. When are we starting? I'll get the cherry-picker ready... .
