Where is every body.

Last Monday, Cummins announced the next generation ISB engine. The news release tells some of the details about the new engine. Some changes include cooled EGR, moved the gear train to the rear of the engine, variable geometry turbocharger, and 80% quieter operation.

Here's a link to the Cummins website and the news release:

This is pretty interesting.

I like the quieter part, but....

Only 275 max HP stock? That doesn't compete well with the Duramax in the marketing game. Hmmmmm.

I like the quiet engine part. But still will sound good straight piped.

Ick egt.

At 275 horse it will have more torque than the V8s.

These horsepower and torque ratings are for the medium duty truck, motorhome, and off road applications. I would imagine that Cummins and Dodge will have a special rating for the Dodge truck application just as they have in the past and Dodge wants to keep the ratings secret until the 2003 model year 2500-3500 trucks are announced next year.

It's sure gonna be fun to have to change gaskets and stuff related to the timing gear now that it's BEHIND the engine up against the firewall.

Yup, lots of fun.

When it goes the projected 500,000 miles before overhaul, I do not think the location of the timing gears are going to be a problem.

I still want that turbo!
