A good friend of mine is doing the swap mentioned in the title of this thread. Recently, he posed an interesting question to me via email that I wasn't able to answer.
This is what he wrote:
"Here's one for you. On the very early Cummins engines that were put in Rams, they ran an 11" clutch. Do you know what diameter the flywheel was? In other words, if you took a tape measure and measured the maximum OD (most likely the ring gear), what would that be? I need to find flywheel for my 1650 conversion that is less than 14" in diameter otherwise I cannot use my original bell housing (it would end up requiring a lot of cutting and grinding to make it fit then). "
What is the overall OD of the flywheels/flexplates used in the Dodge/Cummins? Since the ring gears are all the same diameter, I'd venture to guess that they're all pretty much the same diameter... but I don't know what the spec is.
Thanks,
Matt
