96 GMC conversion

I was at Inland Kenworth this morning trying to buy some filters for my '95 and they had a sheet of paper taped to their counter:

Recon Engines!!!

Cummins Big Cam III, 400 h. p.

Out the Door: $9,975. 00

1 Yr. 100,000 mile warranty

Core Charge $8,975. 00

That Big Cam is early 1980's technology isn't it? I wonder if some friendly nut has ever put one in his pickup?

The parts guy also told me Inland Kenworth used to sell adaptor kits to put a Cummins B engine in Ford and Chevy Pickups. He said the kit had "everything you needed. "

4bt kit in 84 chevy dually

I used the kit to install a 4bt in an 84 chevy dually. It worked out great as the truck has passed 200,000 and the only failure was the alternator bracket. I changed the 4. 10 rear to a 3. 73. I could still use another gear. As to a Cummins 350 in a pickup you realize that the engine weighs about 2500 lbs plus 700 for the trans. The engine governs at 2200 rpm so a serious od is required. But fear not as soon as I put a 5. 9 in my 54 White 3000 COE I have worked out a lot of these problems for my next project.

It would fit in the bed  and you could try to get the transmission in an extended cab inside the cab :D with a drop box right next to the driver  to get the power down to the driveline, a rear end out of a semi  would complete it. Put a 5th wheel plate on the #1 valve cover and you would be THERE man!!!:D :D
