Is there such an animal? I ran into a guy that swears up and down that he works on them. I reviewed the Cummins website, and did not see one in the meduim and heay duty applications.

They make a few engines rated at 500, but the C8. 3 isn't rated that high. In one piece of literature I have seen the V903 called a C500, but I doubt that is what he is talking about.

Back in 1997, Cummins made a half-hearted attempt to change over the naming of their engines. They were just about to introduce the new Signature 600. The current favorite was the N14, which came in 500 and 525 hp N14Plus versions. The idea was to make the entire line give their output as the engine name. So the N14 would be the C500, the N14Plus would be the C525. That never really stuck, but some trucks came with the Cummins C500 cab plate.

I have an N14 rated at 525 hp and thats what everybody calls them, N14. They are used mostly in the big trucks and Case International uses them in the biggest of their tractors, but they are usually turned down to around 400 hp.

Those are real trucks

I'd like one of the 4x4's with a Ram's nose on it then you'd have the ultimate CTD!!

The one I like is the Cummins VTA-903T used in the Army's Bradley Fighting Vehicle. It is made with the radiator laying flat on top so the entire unit can be removed at once. 600 HP with a electronically controlled automatic transmission.

I saw it on HR tv today

Illflem, I saw that this afternoon but that thing looked like a V configuration. Anybody know about this animal? How's the transmission hold up when bombing? Did they consult Bill K. when they set it up? Does the aftermarket make the injectors in 100hp increments? Who makes the chip for it? I NEED ANSWERS! It seems mild for a 900 inch engine. :D

That must be some tractor. Probably plow entire zip codes in one pass, eh? You think we could shoehorn it into my 276? Might have to downrate it a little though. What horse power does it have in a tractor?:D

Bill, they had a Big Bud at the 3-I Show in Gt. Bend, Ks. a few yrs. ago. It had a 450hp eng. driving the front 4, and a450hp on the back 4. I can't remember what eng. , but I think it was Detroit. They would'nt say how much fuel it used per hr. They didn't make too many of them. We have a Versatile 9680, with an N14, 350hp, traded for it last yr. , our old 875 Versatile was rated 280hp,(we had it 18yrs. ) it burned 12 to 13 gal. per hr. , the 9680 350hp burns 7 to 8 gal. per hr. pulling the same implements, so they have really improved the newer Cummins eng.

Bill these were never very popular as class 8 truck engines.
