screaming deal on 1994 Cummins

Let the BOMBing begin

Cummins Conversion on a 4BT

I can get my hands on a 1989, 4BT Cummins engine, 3. 9 c/i , 105 horse power, Turbo size do not know, 4 speed transmission. Miles on engine do not know. { My question is } What this engine and transmission would sell for, He wants $1200. 00 for it? { Question } How far can I take is engine in horse power, by changing fuel pump, and injecter and Turbo? And keep a good fuel mileage?, by using a 4. 10 or 3. 73 rears. Looking to put in a Ford F450 4x4 or a chevy ?

You would want to see if it runs or not if possible. (very important)! If it doesn't run, offer less $. Check the oil in the engine and transmission, color/ smell. If it is burn't, lookout.

For HP, get the CPL number of the pump and take it to one of the guru's, like piers or donnelly, they could give you and extreme amount of information.

I would also get as many brackets/ accessories/mounts as possible for the conversion.

If it were me, and having the money, I would say it sounds like a good deal. I am in the process of doing some research on a 4bt in a 53 GMC conversion.

Anybody have $1200 you would like to give me. :D

Good luck!

I have a copy of a publication known as Cummins and Competitive Automotive Engine Specifications dated 9/89 and it shows the 105 HP 4BT3. 9. Here are the specs:

Rated Power 105 @ 2500RPM

Rated Torque 267 @ 1700RPM

Dry Weight 705 Pounds

There is also an aftercooled version shown:

Rated Power 120 @ 2500RPM

Rated Torque 302 @ 1700RPM

Dry Weight 725 Pounds

Cummins lists these engines as "Light Commercial Delivery Service--4x2 trucks, 8500-16000 lbs. GVW"

Should be a good choice in a vehicle that could handle the weight of most any gas burning v-8 engine.

Hopes this info helps!
