How do I get the Cummins decal off my fender? I need to move it a few inches to install the stainless steel fender trim I bought from Genos.

Get you a hair dryer and heat it up or get some fishing line and run it up behind it and move it back and forth like you are sawing and it will cut through the tape then you just have to clean the sticky residue off the fender.

Thats how I did mine too. You can also get a cloth wheel thingy that goes in your hand led drill that will buff off the goo. They're available at automotive paint supply places.

What a neat idea. Why didn't I think of that? Thanks!

Do you "think" that $35. 00 bucks is paying off now. I do, I don't have to "think" as hard for myself :-laf . Just log on ask, and you will receive. :D

Best way to remove the glue/tape is with laquer (sp) thinner. Still requires some elbow grease but works perfectly. I moved the "RAM 3500" to my hood (see rig). I used a screw driver, heat gun, and a block of rubber. Heat the emblem and the area behind it. Use the rubber to protect the paint and pry against it. Go SLOW and they come off easily. A hair dryer works well too, I just happen to have a friend with a heat gun. :)

I used a rubber wheel to try and remove stickers from my '01. They're made specifically for removing stickers and whatever, but I musta screwed something up 'cause that same friend with the heat gun had to do a little corrective buffing to make the paint look OK. So what I'm saying is be careful with the "high speed" thingys.

Use Goo Gone, you can get it at Home Depot, does not harm the paint and will soften up the glue and all you have to do is rub it off.

Great stuff!

A 3M double-backed tape is used to attach the emblem to the paint (I'm a just retired 3M Tape engineer) and if you called our Technical Service Dept you'd be advised to used a household heat hair dryer to slowly heat the emblem and slowly pry (plastic eating knife works) the emblem up. Then use a 3M " Citris Cleaner" (or any of the orange based cleaners / or tar removal cleaner / or isopropyl alcohol) to remove the remaining adhesive. Rewax afterwards as the cleaners will strip the wax.

The fishline approach I'd not heard of but seems like a great idea also.

WD-40 is the best for removing that goo that is left behind.

Spray it on the goo, let it sit for a few minutes, then take a rag and spray some more on the rag. It does not take a lot of elbow grease with the oil.

oh yeah, be careful with the fish line, it will cut you!!!

Ditto on the WD40, I heated the emblem and slid an old credit card up behind it to cut thru the tape, worked well, but I like the fishing line idea. I also called 3M to get the correct tape number to use when remounting the emblems. Called my local NAPA store and they got it from their wherehouse, had it that afternoon - Pricey stuff, about $9. 00 for a small roll of tape, but did the trick.

They have that 3M tape at Walmart also, I bought three or four rolls when I painted my vent visors. I stripped the original tape off the visors to prep and paint. I know I did'nt pay $9. 00 bucks a roll for it, seems like under $4 or 5$. Unless your talking about a thinner base tape. It does do the job though.

Tony, I just went and looked at the pkg and it is 3M 06385, it is very narrow in width about 1/8-1/4" in width, with a red backing and kind of a black/gray tape, very sticky stuff. 3M rep said this the same stuff or very close to the same stuff that DC used putting on the emblems.

Yep! thats the same kind I got for the window visors,it's good stuff, just be sure to prep the surface good before applying.

Tried it, keep gettin the lure hooked in my shirt... :-laf :-laf

i used a pinstripe removing wheel in my air drill to remove the adheasive left over from when i debadged my truck... it works real easy and doesn't scratch the paint. i did my cummins badges by hand and wd40 earlier before i got the wheel, and i did all the rest of my badges in the same amount of time with the wheel as it took me to do the 2 cummins badges by hand...

use heat and anything with lemon oil in it, a hair dryer sometimes is not hot enough the best is a heat gun or in my case i use a small torch but i don't advise it if you have never done it before! the torch is portable, quick and easy, way to heat it up, on a job site.

i have been in the graphics business for 20 years and had to learn the hard way!

As long as the decal is not on the inside of a tinted window, use windex and a razor blade. Spray the widow with windex, and then scrape the decal off with the blade angled very close to level with the window.

THIS is the BEST $35. 00 I have ever invested in my truck EVER. I will be getting this mag and website for years to come. Just lurking around in the old posts you can learn so much info on these trucks. -Jason
