Cummins engine service manual

I ordered a service manual for my 2001 Ram recently. I asked if there was a manual for the Cummins engine. The girl told me yes, and she said it was no charge. So I ordered the truck manual and the Cummins manual, or so I thought.



When the box came, it contained volumes 1 and 2 of the 2001 Ram 1500-3500 truck service manual. Volume 1 includes the engines, including the diesel.



I phoned DC and asked about this... . the girl said volume two was the Cummins engine manual. It is interesting to note that volume 2 does not contain engine content. My 1999 manual, on the other hand, was a single volume.



Can anyone tell me what is happening here? Is there a separate Cummins engine manual available from DC?

Does sound kinda strange. When I ordered manuals for my '98 I got: Large Bible, supplement for the 24V engines, body repair and tramming 'brochure'. All Dodge sanctioned engine info was in the big book. A separate Cummins engine manual (B series all) in all its applications is available not from Dodge (to my knowledge) but from Cummins powerstore. Much of the info is repeat, although the maintenance schedules seem more lenient than D/C's!!

I think if you look at the books, you will find that the large one covers everything. I beleive its color is bright orange. The second one is smaller and is a blue green. This one is the updates for the 2001 model trucks. If I am not mistaken Dodge did not do a full reprint with updates for 2001. What they did do was to give you a 2000 manual with an added update manual (the small one). That is what I received when I ordered mine.

I ordered the service manual for mine a couple of months ago and for the 2001 there is now a volume one and a volume two, one is for the engine and one is 'other' if I remember correctly. The girl ordered you the correct manual(s) if you got two volumes. To my knowledge there is no seperate manual for the Cummins that you can get from Dodge, but maybe Cummins sells something of their own for this motor. I didn't see one the last time I was on the Cummins web page but then again wasn't looking for it! Hope this helps!
