I’m performing the first PM on our new Trecan snow melter. Traditionally they’ve had Perkins or Deere power, but this one has a Cummins B 4.5 (CPL 3670).
I thought everyone would like to know about the filtration on this engine, since it’s a pure Cummins spec without anyone else’s influence. I’m spinning off the factory filters.
It’s always been a hot topic, since Common Rail came to be, that Chrysler skimped on filtration against Cummins’ will. This is evidenced on 03-07 Rams and their fuel filters. The oil filter selection is always a hot topic as well.
So here’s the rundown.
The oil filter was a LF3970.
the water separator is a 25 micron Davco, it had a FS19765.
The primary fuel filter is FS1065. The filter head on this has a neat hand primer pump built in.
The secondary fuel filter is a FF6309.
The air filter is interesting piece that’s a double V shaped panel, looks robust enough for desert operations. That is AF55021.
