Hey all

Just wondering if anyone could possibly give me some ideas on what do do with my wiring on my conversion? my engine is in and everything inside the cab is now hooked up. My question is about the computer and the 6. 5harnes that was on the truck? what all did you keep or get rid of on your swap? Mine is a 12valve/6-speed so there are only a few wires needed to make this thing move.

What I am curious about is what all most to to hook up the guages? do you actually need the computer behind the glove box to make the guages work? or is the computer control just the 6. 5pump/4L80E trany?

Just trying to figure out what I can cut and what can junk!

Thanks in advance and hopefully someone can give me an idea

Ryan,

Mine is a '93, so there's not much of a computer. But autoworld did a 2005/6 Ford recently - and hooked up enough of the sensors so that the original computer could drive the gauges and accesories. You might give them a holler - I think it worked pretty well.

They did a '95 Sub over this past Christmas holiday too, so they could also tell you what they did on that one.

Ryan-

I own the '95 Suburban to which Mark was referring. You will need to keep the original 6. 5 computer to run all the gauges. I think everything including speedometer, tach, oil pressure and temperature gauges goes through the computer, and there are probably a few other things as well.

I would suggest you leave as much of the original harness in place as possible and just tuck away the plugs you do not need (throttle position switch, fuel solenoid driver, etc. ). Otherwise, you will need to get a wiring diagram and trace each circuit before stripping it out of the harness to verify you don't need it.

Yeah, I think I am going to go that route! there are some funky looking plugs/conections on that 6. 5 harness. What I am going to do is get it ready to run with the senders for the Oil presure, coolant temp, water in fuel, volts, tach and speedo and then just start deleting what I don't need. There isn't much I need with this 12valve and seeing Im not running things like grid heaters and the fuel heater its even less I have to worry about. What I am wanting to do though is make this instal look stock so that means getting rid of as many of the un-needed conections as possible.

Does anyone know for 100% sure that the computer is needed to read sensors or if they go directly up to the guages?
