EGR is the last thing I'm worried about for my next truck. I can't imagine EGR will shorten engine life down to anything close the the life of the Dodge truck around it. If we are still able to buy big, torquey, all-iron inline-6 diesels in pickups, it's all good.

on the Jetta the EGR can be a problem by fouling up the intake to some degree. Some of the guys over at Freds TDI are using Vag-Com, an OBD software/scanner, to lower the EGR to it's minimum setting. No more fouled in-takes.

It will just be a matter of time before something like this becomes available to the 6. 7 crowd. Marco... . you're on this. . right????

I find it funny that no matter which engine manufacturer website you visit they all claim to have the best fuel milage. Also the parts they're showing are more of an advertisement for the quality of the oil and not necessarily the engine. I wonder how many VGT's that engine went through? I'm sort of playing the devils advocate here, If you were to believe everything the engine manufacturer said I've got one for you. Click here!

HA HA!! I like how Ford gives all their line units pet names like the engine is "King of Torque" and the transmission is "PowerTeam". It really cracks me up. I guess they're trying to market to hill billies that don't read or write. I guess they figure they'll buy it if it sounds cool.

Not so much hillbillies as yuppies who like to spout numbers at the water cooler. Most hillbillies are still stuck in 454/460 gasser mode, though some are starting to wean themselves from spark plugs. Face it, ford has nothing but cheesy names to sell their products. It sure isnt the power or economy of their diesels.

Economy not here,my company 2001 cube 7. 3 can't even break the 12MPG mark empty or loaded /city/highway delivering bread all day long, and YES definitly underpowered too and all ten of them that we have used over the years like the taste of oil---they use between 3-4 quarts between oil changes(every 6000miles),The longest we have keep them for is just over 210000 miles, mine is closing in on that mark and its getting tired :-laf :-laf :-laf ,wonder how long it will last, trying to convince the boss to go with the new Dodge6. 7 cab/chassie for my next ride. ;)DW

I've seen farm trucks with a million on them, and they spend half their day idling on the side of the field, or in line at the elevator. That's harder on them than running down the interstate.

At least around here, most if not all farm trucks are retired OTR rigs. Many have 500k before they ever see a farm. The "big guys" I'm sure buy them with less miles, but many of them are used as well.
