I live near a steep highway grade with 4 lanes, which is about 3 miles long, the Conejo Grade. It is a good test of any truck. Yesterday I was cruising up and about 1/4 way up I see a newer raised 4x4, 3rd gen. truck coming up from behind like a bat out of hell... I start to give her a little more throttle to see if this guy wants to play, the other truck has the momentum and passes me and I notice his Hemi tag... . now I'm on it full throttle in 6th gear even though it's a steep hill I'm gaining on the hemi... . we are both going for it and there is no traffic ahead of us... I slowly catch the hemi then pass him (you should see the look on his face)... I am about 6 truck lengths ahead as we crest the hill.

Oh yeah, I left out one detail... ... I was pulling a small flat bed twin axle trailer (empty)!... . I was headed up to pick up my bobcat skid loader off a job site. That Hemi boy was shocked!!!

Those hemi's got nothin us cummins boys (and girls :D). . I spanked a Lexus GS430 so bad last night. . you should have seen the look on his face= :( my face :D

With your box... Thats not suprising at all. My friends dad has a hemi single cab long bed and he only beat me by 2 truck lengths. . both stock

The race was from 0- 80

Nick

X, You probably would beat your friends Hemi if you raced up this steep grade, I think torque comes into play more going up hill... .

But put yourself in the Hemi guy's place... . he thinks he has the baddest truck in town (watching too much TV) then gets beat by a diesel pulling a trailer!

X why dont you have the transmission done and get you one of those new TST boxes then you can have some fun. what you waiting on? of course dont the hemi the next time you race what you have done just tell them that the you put on a new muffler and cold air induction and on of the air tag :)

the hemi aint all that. my buddies single cab hemi got a 1 1/2 lenghts put on him by a single cab chevy with the 4. 8 v8. talk about being ticked! he has since put cold air intake and exhaust and with a few more miles of break in he is now putting 2 lenghts on the chevy.

CATCRACKER. Sadly im sitting here waiting for money :( truck payment = 450 a month nextel phone bill = 102 a month insurance = 85 bucks a month. . Im saving up for the stuff now it will be a while

Nick

Actually, a very simular thing happened to me. That is why I now own an 03 HO CTD. I was puling my 15ft camper on I-68 and was passed going uphil, by a cummins pulling a 27 ft. flatbed with 6 4 wheelers on it. He just didn't pass me, he flew by about 70. I turned to the fiancee and said "that's why I want a diesel"... she said "go buy one". Two days later I was at the dealer talking smack, tat Friday, it was mine. Her requirements were simply... It had to have 4 doors! We are both happy with the purchase. I have toyed with other cars as well on uphill grades. My old truck was a 95 Ram 4x4 5. 2L

Comparing the new hemi to the cummins is like comparing apples to oranges... no comparison. The Hemi is a terrific motor for a gasser... I say again... a gasser. Can't really be compared.

I have never been to the track or boat ramp and had diesel person say "I wish I had gotten the gas motor" BUT I have heard the reverse hearing the gasser guy nearly always stating "I should have gotten the diesel"

Man you guys are nuts with $800 mo. payments. Mine would be about $300 on a new truck and I can't really justify it. My house payment is only a bit more than $800.

$475 a month and that is to much for me that is another reason i am selling it going to a 12V so i can pay cash for it. i am getting a company car so i dont want to pay 475 for nothing i am going to twin turbo and stack a 97 3500 lifted 4. 5" with 35muds holy **$# that is going to be one bad mutha! it going to do nice job towing my D3 CAT :) ( of course i am going to have to have a 2nd set of small wheels to get under the gooseneck)

back to the HEMI i will get one if they put a 6. 1 in a 1500

Got 4. 99 for 60 months fro mthe dealer, got the DC ext. warranty - $659/month, put $4500 down.

The advantage X has is that he's still young & living at home - no mortgage or utility bills, clothes for the kids to worry about. He'll catch up to us in due time though - but hopefully not TOO soon.

Nick, enjoy your youth while you can! :D

Had a HEMI for 2 months. Got tired of stopping all the time and putting gas in it. Traded in on a CTD. Happier than a clam in the mud.

My Hemi 2500 owning co-worker and I stop for fuel once a week. We put on about the same mileage. He spends about $6 more a week. I can't even begin to keep up with him on an interstate on ramp. ;)
