72 chevy to diesel??

clutch hydraulics

I had mentioned this awhile back ago, but I have now decided to actually attempt this. The big question is: Do I box the frame on the chevy and swap the entire drivetrain from the dodge, or do I just swap the chevy cab onto the dodge frame?

Just for info the Chevy is a three quarter ton with a flat bed and the possible donor rig is a 92 350 extended cab with dual rear wheels, 5 speed and 4wheel drive.

I know neither route is going to be easy, but I am wondering which one would cause the least headaches. This ought to be fun and I will promise to keep y'all updated with lots of pics.

Thanks for any help or words of wisdom.

I would try to find a rolling chasis with the cummins and all of the drive train. My friend is building a 51 chevy with a cummins and he thought the stock frame wouldn't be heavy enough, so he built one, but It should be pretty easy to put the bed and cab on a newer frame, you would just have to weld on different body mounts. This link might be some help to you but I havent gotten any pictures yet. www.tdr1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=123388

I just reread your post and saw that you have a donor rig. You could use that frame and custom build a toolbox to fit in the extra space betwen the cab and the bed, where the extended cab would have been on your donor rig. My friend did something like that because the truck had a short bed and he wanted a place to keep tools so when he built hiis new frame he left room for a toolbox that is 2 foot wide and and stops at the bottom of the rear window
