A "New SUV" with a Cummins

Cummins 6AT3.4

Has anyone gotten a Cummins Motor into a CJ jeep? If so was it worth anything off the pavement?? Would the wieght of the 5. 9 be to much to continue rock crawling ETC? I know if the 24V could be used that load sensing idle would rock!

What about the ole Breadtruck 4cylinder motor? It would be a lighter swap by all means. But it would not be any eaiser to do IMO. Do they have any nuts? Or can they be Bombed?

For space reasons I guess it would be best to use an older non intercooled motor? Or could one cobble up an intercooler setup off of another vehicle with a smaller Intercooler.

I have a freind with a CJ that wants more power and better MPG. Kind of hard to get unless you go DIESEL. He thinks an LS1 with fuel injection would be better. BOMB the Cummins and he will have enough torque to flip that thing over lol. Thanks for any info!

they exist. . in 4 banger configuration. . never seen anything on the 6 config... . work great as a trail rig. . little to narrow power band for the rocks. . you'd buzz the motor to oblivion trying to get over some of the big ones IMHO

The 4BT can be Bombed with many of the same parts as the 12v'ers

there are several articals in 4x4 mags. and in JP mag. re, this install

There was a Scorpion running the 4 Banger. Didn't work too well for the competitions, the power band is just too narrow. I'd say stick with the 350.

Re engines, Don't discount a 4. 3 vortec V6. That to me would be the ideal CJ engine. I had a 3. 8 Buick oddfire in a '67 CJ5 and loved it. Fuel injection would be a huge plus.
