Cummins in early 80's Chevy 1/2 ton

Have a friend who is going to drop a 6bt in a Chevy half ton.



He is serious about it and wants to know if he can link an NV4500 to a 1st gen style transfer case??



Any info appreciated.

Yes, the NV4500 to NP205 is possible. Someone had a conversion kit that made the conversion the same length as the Getrag and 205. As for the Cummins on a CHevy 1/2 ton, I would suggest a MAJOR upgrade to the front suspension. The Cummins weighs around 1000 lbs; a 454 is about 700, I believe. I stand for correction. Anyway, beef up that front end, and run 6 or 8 ply tires. 4s just wont cut it.

An NV4500 from a 4x4 94-98. 5+ Dodge will bolt right up to an NP205 case from an 89-93 CTD Dodge. You will have to remove the seal from the rear of the NV4500 output shaft and use the splined coupler from the 89-93 205. You will still have a seal in the input shaft of the 205, just use silicone to seal the cases together, and use the same oil in transmission and transfer case as a guard against cross-contamination.

As dpuckett said, beef the front end WAY up.
