I've managed to re-power my '84 Ramcharger with a Cummins out of my wrecked '89 P. U.
Running stock 3" through a Flowmaster although I can see a straight pipe on the horizon. Turbo is a non-gated 18. All this sits on top of a TF with NP205, 60 & 70 axles with 3. 07s. Might be a little bit of over-kill but at least I won't have to worry about breaking something. 60% of my driving is freeway with less than 5% towing time.
I have a non-gated 12 in stock and wouldn't mind being able to hear my turbo a little more but not at the risk of hurting this thing, after all its survived 110,000 miles
of being driven by me (320,000 total). Anybody have any thoughts on Cummins in this
light an application and running that small a turbo housing? None of the specs. I pulled with the engine in the P. U. as far as boost, EGT seem to fit with the RC.
Any thoughts/suggestions are welcome,
Thanks, Jones

Hey Jones:
U may know my buddy Ryan from Sacramento that has the Cummins Powered Crew-Cab 1975 power wagon? He was talking about your project. . what an awesome idea!! I seem to recall that the engine compartments are the same in the pickups as they are in Ram Chargers, so in that case it would fit nicely. Have you talked to Marv at "ALL-DODGE" in Sac yet about the transition? or try the doctor himself Bill French at Independent Diesel Repair out near the airport. . he and his crew put Ryan's motor in the big PW. That thing would need an inter-cooler before you start to bomb it, but holy smokes! that'll kick but with the short wheel base and tons of Cummins behind it! Lemme know what you think of! I am up in Sac all the time on the weekends at Ryans working on Trucks... so get ahold of us sometime. . i'll e-mail you his cell #!

Jones-

Post some pic's dude!

There was a nice fella at the rally in Temple last year that had a 12V in a regular cab, Chevy dually... looked like it was factory installed. I'd like to see pic's of any vehicle with a transplanted Cummins.

Jones, great idea installing a cummins in a Ramcharger, however, have you encountered any problems with the frame or front supension. I believe all the Ramcharger frames and supensions are 1/2 ton units. Pretty lightweight to be hauling a Cummins setup or have you beefed up these components?

Greetings all,
Notes back on Cummins in Ramcharger.
Hey Cummnzpower, Haven't met Ryan yet but anyone into Cummins/Dodge has gotta be good people. As for Marv at ALL-DODGE, The poor guy probably thinks I've moved in or at least I have a cot in the backroom. Hes been really good though about straight answers to any questions and has bailed me out on hard to find parts.
243, Photos as soon as I can figure how to get them out of the camera and into a transmittable format.
Reoraider, As far as problems, I'm still putting the final touches on the installation
(trying to keep it looking factory). So far this has been my thinking; With a lighter vehicle, there shouldn't be a lot of vehicle to get moving so more of the frame breaking torque should go to the ground. As far as suspension goes though, wqhen I put the 60 under the front end in use the 4x4 Cummins app. springs too to help carry the additional weight. This thing isn't bombed so I'm hoping for no problems. Not to say I won't be back asking for tips on fish-plating a frame later. Otherwise, its been pretty much a bolt-in operation> Only had to stretch two holes on the tail-shaft housing to rear mount plate. Any questions, e-mail me or ask over the forum, happy to share any tricks I've learned.
Later, Jones

It would be really cool to get all the converted "Cummins Trucks" together one day ,just to see how crazy everyone really is #ad
. But for now, maybe we(people who have done it & people who want to do it) all should talk to TDR about a web page in the TDR for "Cummins Conversions"?

1985 DODGE 1 ton Crew Cab(imported from California with no rust) W/8' box converted to 4X4 in 1999. Converted to a non-intercooled 1991 Cummins Turbo diesel & 5 speed Getrag in 2000(wife can't drive a stick :). Freshly rebuilt and balanced Cummins. Rebuilt Injector pump and tweaked. 4:10 gears, limited slip rear end, 205 transfer case, 16" Goodyear GSA Wranglers and LE Package and a Sony CD Stereo. Next add-on some “Banks” toys ! Wish Dodge would build a new Crew Cab in 1 ton. Last year for the Crew Cab was 1985. If you want to know why I did all of this, 2 kids, one on the way and I can't stand Ford and Chevy. I agree, let us have a place where all us nuts can talk about our projects. Projects with Cummins power anyway #ad
