Cummins installed wrong oil filter

I have owned 3 CTD's and have always done my own oil changes ... except for the last time on my 03, when I was rushed for time and since I knew the first filter change Could be a challenge. Took it to Cummins Rocky Mountain in Grand Junction, CO. It's now time for the second oil change. I bought the plastic 6 in 1 wrench and crawled under the truck to get started. Guess what, they installed an LF3894, which is the wrong filter! Does anyone know if any damage has been done?? I now have to fight that round filter off in any case. What a pain!!

I had a lengthy discussion with Fleetguard about the filters for the new 03/ 04/ 05 trucks. The stock replacement filter is a LF3972, the Stratopore filter is an LF16035. The only difference according to Fleetguard between the LF16035 and a LF3894 is the ribs on the bottom of the filter. Other than having to remove the filter the same way as all the previous CTD's, no damage has occured.

No damage whatsoever Roger, the LF3894 is the best filter you can possibly put on your truck, along with the LF16035

Difference is the slots for the filter wrench.

No damage done with the 3894 stratopore.

But, there is a Stratopore available now with the slots for the the 03/04 trucks.

Thanks everyone. That's a relief. Now all I have to do is get the thing off, which looks like it's going to be more of a challenge than with my 02.

Yep,

I'm using the 3894. Bought a case of 'em. I've been using a band type filter wrench and haven't had any problems.

Rodger just take the intake hose off. The hose that goes from the airbox lid down to the turbo, then you can get to the filter from above.



I have used the 3894 filter since the first oil change and I will continue to do so. I like being able to do a visual of the air intake for dust and to get a look at the turbo fins as well.
