Which alternator?

95 GMC Suburban?

I have a 1983 Chevy crew cab 4X4 dually 1-ton with 4 speed manual trans. It has a 454. All original. I want to put a cummins into it. I have owned a 1990 cummins since it was new. Love the motor and would love a brand new one, but don't have the $ now. Someday. Besides this is going to be my all around work truck. We usually weigh in (truck, trailer, load) 17,000 to 25,000 pounds.

I hope someone(s) out there has done this conversion already. I really would like to know exactly what I'm in for. I would like to know what works the best for motor, transmission, rear end and etc. I just want a setup that is very effecient and effective. I really don't need the super high performance extras. My 1990 has been purrrrfect, but with two new additions to the family a few years ago it is way too small (single cab. ) Any leads greatly appreciated.

My buddy put one in a 1984 Chevy Crew cab. He didn't do it himself but he had a mechanic do it. It took the mechanic about 2 months to do. He had to end up taking it back to him a couple of times for some problems. That guy said he would never do a project like that again. But now that pickup pulls very good. the only problem is it's top speed is 65 MPH. I think there is a guy down in arizona that will do any conversions.
