Cummins in early 80's Chevy 1/2 ton

What would it take to put a cummins into a 2001 2500 QC 4x4 gasser with an automatic transmission and the heavy duty transfer case? Would a 12 valve be easier (ie: cheaper) than a 24? And without me doing any of the work what would it cost approx? Any thoughts are appreciated.

The big expense would obviously be the engine... .

It could be done with a 24-valve... . and wouldn't be too tough.

The cool thing to do would be to get a complete wiring harness (and maybe the engine/ECM/PCM from a wrecked turbo diesel) and just slap it in.

The hours will be long and there will be a lot of beer and swearing involved, but it can be done.

You might be able to pick up a wrecked turbo diesel for a reasonable amount... . and sell off what you don't need.

EVERYTHING is a bolt-in affair..... just do it..... to satisfy your need for diesel until a common rail ISB is in your future.

Even better... . I'll HELP you do it... . I'm in Gardner, you're in Clinton... . see where I'm going with this? :D

Hey, if you'd like to talk with some complete diesel heads this Saturday..... LOOK at this link to a NETDP gathering thread... .
