California Smog.... Faulty science behind state's landmark diesel law

New mileage announcement for our trucks.....

My friend has a 2001 Numar Mountain Air Motor home built on a Spartan chassis. Powered by a 8. 3L Cummins ISC, 350 HP Diesel engine. His Radiator Fan is operated by a continuously running hydraulic motor powered by the Power Steering pump.

He says that he saw an advertisement for a kit or retro fit unit that operates the fan thermostatically only when needed, now that he is planning on doing some work on the MH he can’t find the information. Is anybody here on TDR familiar with this?

Is he sure about the P/S pump driving it???

The last one we had in here like that was driven off of the Allison transmission using a pto/pump set-up. It may have been a Monaco Chassis rather than a Spartan, can't remember for sure.

Very expensive and hard to work on.

Have him verify the pump system and let me know.

I believe that there was a valve in the plumbing circuit to vary output depending on engine temp but can't remember how it all hooked up, interfaced with the engine, etc. and I won't see the resident hydraulic expert until Monday.
