Big Horsepower Gains With Propane

The hospital where I work has 3 Onan/Cummins generator sets for emergency power. The engine labels say they're model #KTA19-G4 and are rated at 755HP. These units are pretty inpressive, big ol' inline sixes that run at 1800 rpm. The exhaust pipes are at least 7" if not 8" in diameter. Every Friday they fire 'em up for testing. They are set up to start at full throttle to hit operating speed ASAP. They fire off with a roar and a big shot of black smoke. The smoke clears right up and they humm along and sound just like our trucks but on a larger scale. With all 3 of them roaring it's an awesome sound! The coolant on these powerplants is maintained at 70F for fast starts, and they always fire off instantly. Recently we had a power outage. The moment the power dropped, the engines started, revved up to operating speed, relays switched over, all this in less than 2. 5 SECONDS!!!

Question: Does anyone know specs on these engines, like displacement and torque ratings? Couldn't find anything on the web.

There is an owner operator in Southern California that attends the "Truckin for Kids" truck show and drags ever year that has a KT in his three axel truck. His truck turns the 1/4 mile somewere around 16 plus seconds, and it has about 1,000 HP! I talked to his wife one time and she said he hates to get passed!!!

Hey vaughn,I know what you mean, the company I work for has two 2200 hp cummins gensets, you should here the bad boys fire!

Get a load of this!!!

Last week, the speed record for a class 8 truck was broken. The previous record was 147 MPH, and the new record is 168 MPH. Here's some details...

The truck:

1999 KW T2000

The Engine:

Cummins K19, 19L 2,200 HP

I can't remember the driver right offhand... I am not sure on torque ratings either.

Pretty cool, huh? There was several articles in the local paper about it... Anyone else see it?
