Awsome paint job

I have a friend who is looking at a Payloader with a Cummins NHC-250 engine.

I don't know too much about this engine. Are there any pro's or Con's that anyone knows about this?

I believe it's a 5 cylinder.

It should be a 6 cylinder, non-piston cooled, non-turboed. Not a bad engine , don't try to jack up the fuel pump, you will melt a piston. Liner cavitation can be an issue on this as well as any older engine if they have not been using DCA or Nalcool at the correct levels.

Have a blowby check done before purchase to give you some idea of cylinder condition. I don't remember if specs are different for a natural asperated engine, but I'm sure they are, due to internal crank venting into the intake manifold.

Parts are very expensive from Cummins , but maybe cheaper from IPD or someone like them.

Most were plagued with coolant leaks from the head gasket, caused by loose linners in the upper bore after high hours, and not faulty head gaskets. I have never seen a real good fix for this. Some were cut for . 007" shim and this helped. I don't think there was ever a . 020" shim made for these which would help some more.

If this doesn't have coolant running down the side of the block, it may be just fine.
