Where can I get rid of 8 qts of used gear lube around Aurora CO

I got into an interesting dicussion with a good friend of mine and he was telling me about how cummins will no longer be supplying engines in the Rams. I asked him when this would start and he said 2003 would be the last year for the cummins and then they would start putting Mercedes Benz engines in them. I find this hard to believe because isn't Cummins redesigning the ISB for 2003? He also was telling me about how Ford owns over half the stocks of Cummins. He told me 52%. That was the first time i've heard this and found it hard to believe. Does anybody have any information on these rumors?? Thanks.

Chris

It's hard to believe that the Ford owns Cummins BS will not die. Ford owned 10% of Cummins stock for a while. Cummins execised their buy back option for that stock in January '97 and the Ford man resigned from the board of directors. That's almost five years ago and dim wits are still convinced that Ford owns Cummins.   I have heard nothing since then to the contrary. I'm sure it would be all over these forums if anything changed in that area.

The last I heard Cummins has the exclusive contract for supplying diesels for Dodge Ram pickups thru '07.

Dig around on the cummins web page and it will confirm that as far as cummins is concerned this is a non-issue.

It is unfortunate that my engine survey thread from well over a year ago got brought back to the surface, kind of feeds the rumor mill.

I know what you mean about people talking about thangs they know nothing about. My brother-in law knows "EVERYTHING" about everything. Which means he doesn't normally know anything. When I showed him my new truck (see signature) he said that with that big truck you will only get about 5 miles to the gallon. I told him I expected to get around 16-17 mpg around town and close to 20 on the highway. Of course he said "no way" I love alway proving this idiot wrong. The next day I went on a 350 mile trip and got 21 mpg (avg. speed 60 - 65 mph). The next time I saw him which I try to avoid!! I loved telling him that I got 21 mpg. of course he just grunted and walked off.

do you guys ever read the TDR quaterly issue that is sent to you?

The TDR discussed just that very thing in issue 32.

If you have problems getting people to beleive you about Ford not owning any of Cummins, have them go to the this WEB site. I would hope that they will beleive Cummins' own web site.

Denny,

Do you have the same brother-in-law I have? That's just the way mine is. Knows everything because he believes every rumor he hears. Never checks anything out. I've rubbed his nose in so much stuff it's got boring. He still swears the Ford owns Cummins no matter what. What a dim wit!

I had the pleasure of talking to one of those guys this past weekend. I was informed about all of the drawbacks of buying a diesel- expense, smell, noise yada yada yada. I started to argue a couple of points but soon gave up. I just remembered a saying from my old motorcycle days "If I have to explain it you wouldn't understand".

As a dealer for one of DCs recently aquired brands I can tell y'all for certain that they want to put MB engines in anything and everything. While I don't see ISBs leaving Rams anytime soon I do believe we will have the option of having a Cummins or an MB. BTW, the redesign for 2003 has nothing to do with Dodge Rams. It has to do with 2004 EPA Emmissions Levels. All I can say is that I'm glad I got my truck when I did. I'm not too keen on having EGR on a diesel engine and that IS what Cummins has done to the ISB (and all of their other onroad engines).

my wife wont drive mine :D

and I wont put the nerf bars on to keep her out. :D

this reminds of a conversation I was having with a (diesel certified DC tech) good friend of mine this past weekend. we went to the bar for some hot wings and "soda". he started in about the MB engine in the DC trucks soon too. then his explanation was that Ford owned Cummins.

I nearly spit my beer, Oh, I mean "soda" in his face. I then proceeded to ask him where he heard this from and explained it was a farse. can you imagine, thier own employees dont know the health and status of their company and its partnerships.

cummins rumors

it's easy to see why the pherd/cummins rumor is credible. pfoord has bought outright or controlling interest in mazda, volvo, jaguar plus more i don't know about. the rumor of the ferd/cummins connection isn't going to die easily. i just shake my head and walk away when i hear it. IF they owned cummins, you think they wouldn't figure out some way to offer the cummins, at least as an option, in the pooper dooty?:(

Phord

I think that was Phords plan(to offer something besides that poor excuse for a diesel). Cummins knows it has a good thing with D. C. I think they make 1 Billion a year from D. C. a year. And they know they can go with something else if they want to(Detroit or M. B. ). There's a link over on the Phord site tht's 8 pages long on which is better ,Cummins or P. O. S. D. It's funny tho ,you can get adapter kits to put a Cummins in just about anything, but there's nobody wanting to put a p. s. or any other brand X diesel in a Ram. ;) :D :D . Doug

Ford and Cummings

Along with the "Ford owns Cummins" mantra, is the other misnomer that no amount of correction seems to be able to penetrate the fog; calling the Cummins a Cummings  Go figure. Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle... ... . or out in left field.

I kinda figured all of what i posted was just that, RUMORS. I knew that ford didn't own cummins but i haven't been keeping up with all these changes for years to come so that is why i posted. It will be interesting to see what develops in the years to come. Thanks again guys.
