Hello, i am planning on doin a 4bt swap into my 94 chevy 1500 4wd short bed. It is an automatic right now and i am planning on converting it to a nv4500 with an np 205? that is the transfer case usually found on a dodge correct? anyways i have the bellhousing adaptor and a blowed up non turbo 4b and was wondering if anyone had any advice that has been down this road and could help me out. I am doing solid axle conversion and i would like to eliminate the computer all together (i do not like computers). So i am basically starting from scratch any help would be much appreciated.

DB109,

205 t-cases were found in the 89-93 rams with the getrag 5-spd. They will bolt to a nv4500, but will need a collar to connect the output and input shafts if I remember correctly. The drop is on the passenger side for the 205 used in Dodges, but is no problem if you are converting to straight axle, just use a GM dana 44 or dana 60. On the 94 you should still have the TBI engine. You can eliminate all the wiring going to the fuel injection, and I think the wiring for the the gauges runs outside the ECM. You will have to retain the ECM, and power to it if you want to use the trucks Speedometer, and odometer. The 12v wire used for the coil works great for the fuel shut off solenoid on the VE pump. If it were me, I would rebuild the engine to be a 4bt, you will like the performance a little better. I posted a picture of my conversion to give you a little bit of an idea of how it sits under the hood. -Nicholas

You can use either a Dodge or Chevy NP205 t-case for a passenger side drop. If Chevy, you will need to find the very rare 6-bolt-round pattern case as opposed to the 8-bolt hour-glass pattern.

You can use a Ford NP205 if you want to do a driver's side drop. It already has the correct 6-bolt-round pattern and it also comes with the stronger 32-spline outputs as a bonus.

You can swap internals from any other big-bearing NP205 t-case to build one how you need it.

If you can't find the 1st gen dodge stuff, Advance Adapters has some things to easily accomplish what you want. Good luck. It sounds like a great project. Have you considered just finding an older Chevy that already has a solid front axle to avoid so much hassle with the Dana 60 axle conversion AND a Cummins/NV4500/NP205 swap (I sure like your choice of hard parts!).
