Off Roading wild story

for some reason the link was not working right. It got me to the page, but it was hard to read. So try this one and see if it works better.

Being the kind and considerate guy I am I decided that I needed to post this link over at HighLifter.com for the benefit of the Ford boys that hang out over there running their mouths. I'm sure they will enjoy the read. I know I did. :D

i am going to make 400+ with a $650 dollar plug in box:-laf with out having to worry about spinning a bearing or throwing a rod.

Navistar should build an I6 around 6 liters. i am going to say it the engineers at navistar have their heads up their a$$ and the FORD people pay for it..... I think it is sad. With todays technology it is not hard to build a great diesel engine. duramaxx is on their way and this is only the 3rd year. (bad aluminum heads)

navistar should build a 6. 2 inline w/ HPCR with a VVT turbo egr and they would meet emissions and have less warranty claims. Ford has no leadership. they just throw money to navistar and say build it. why dont the guys at the top really learn about diesels and then give navistar a model of what they want.

HPCR already proven, cheap injectors, liability falls onto bosch

VVT that works with out all of those moving parts!

Iline 6 emissions friendly, greater durability, its better just by its physical structure.

Ford Friends

It wasn't always that way. A few STILL believe the no replacement for displacement and also the 6 vs 8 stuff. But two years ago nobody gave the lil six the time of day.

Duke is a pretty hip cat and came near to purchasing a Ram a while back.

There is a rumor that a 500 hp PSD exists, but that still leaves a 200 horsepower gap between the 24v Cummins and the Ford. Best dyno run I ever saw by a Ford was 440 on fuel only.

Catcracker don't take this as a flame.

We all know the power the HCPR makes on electronics alone is great. But the Ford thread is comparing the 7. 3psd to the pre HCPR Cummins.

Well, Ferd wanted the new engine for 03 to be a V8, smaller, high revving, easy on trannys (no bottom end grunt), and to have HUEI fuel system. Thus you have the new 6. 0. You dont want to know what happened when navistar made the V6 for the 1/2 tons and they had fewer rules. Pissd Ferd off and no F150 diesles.

I have a friend who works for a company that won a contract to supply parts for the new I6 diesel for 2007. Maybe they are catching on or maybe they'll scrap the idea before it becomes reality.

They don't seem to realize that the Cummins B is also 230 years old.

In addition to an upgradeable fuel system, the Cummins has a strong bottom end, good cylinder head clamping to hold a lot of boost, and airflow/turbo combinations available to run a lot of boost. The replacement for displacement, at least to a point, is BOOST.

Even better, they should've just built the truck around the DT466. Any that I have run in farm tractors, I never had a complaint about.

Other than emissions maybe, they (Navistar) already had a good engine available to use instead of a V-8.

Since alot of Ford diesel owners had a gasser before and are used to big block V-8's making more power than a 6 in any form, they must figure it is the best, biggest and the baddest thing on the planet. Maybe that is what Ford is thinking(do they do that ? )?

Just a thought.

I think many of the phord guys are just plain uneducated when it comes to engine design. They probably bought the truck because it was the only real crew cab option at the time or they had a friend who has one was told it was the "baddest" thing out there.

If my Dodge truck did not come with a Cummins, but a different motor, I would not have bought it. I hope Dodge is smart enough to realize that.

Good point about the age of the motor Joe. I don't think age of the motor is as important as the design of the motor.

Age = proven longevity. Apparently the basic design of the B engine remains unchanged because over time it has functioned well. For those of us in business who find downtime on our trucks to be a money losing proposition, simplicity and longevity of design provide product confidence which no amount of advertising can purchase.

Other manufacturers keep changing power plants in an effort to one up the Cummins, but this engine just keeps plugging along.

Nuthin' flashy, just functional and reliable. By far our two CTDs continue to be the best automotive investments we've ever made.

I had Ford diesels in 1985,1986 and 1989. They were F-250 4x4's. We had to have the injector pumps replaced every 30,000 miles-they used a rubber disc to pump fuel:rolleyes:-front ends did not even last 25,000 miles because of bad design/engine weight. We purchased 100,000 mile warranties with these trucks and were told by Ford that they would not honor the x warranty on the front ends because of the roads (dirt) we drove the trucks on. Whats the point of a 4x4? CTD's from 1993 on, happy ever since. :D
