Cup Holder Spring Problem

My cup holder in my 2002 RAM 2500 SLT kept falling down when I put two cups in it; the two swing arms (a) & (b) would be jarred out of their holder mountings so that the holder fell ALL the way down and the arms would disconnect from the cup holder its self. . I looked on the WEB for a diagram of this assembly BUT found nuttin. When I looked closely at it, I found that one end of the short plastic arm (a) - the one with the plastic female tab that engaged the male axle tab on the cup holder itself, had broken off. I drilled two small holes in the side of (a) right over the spot where the plastic female tab with hole was, and used a piece of stiff aluminum wire to make a U shaped loop to catch the male plastic axle - so far so good ... ..... It works perfectly. BUT while I was making all these technically innovative repairs, the spring which helped to slo the drop of the two holder arms popped off. I looked at where it was sposta go but couldn't figure out how ta put it back! It looks to be a really pain in the butt job to take the entire cup holder section out of the dash so I'm tossing this problem up for another solution... ... ... . any suggestions?
