Installed my new cup holder & shimmed per the instructions. . Used 2 washers and need to take one out. Had the truck in for the clutch work and they slammed it. Now it is jammed, online instructions say to pry with a screwdriver. Does anyone know where I pry at or the best way to release it. TIA, Scott

I had the same thing happen to me when a buddy decided to slam my console lid shut and I did it myself prior to that. The reason it will not open with the lever is that there is a small weighted safety built into the latch that will restrict it from being opened when the console is in the up position. When the console lid gets slammed the locking safety doesnt have enough time to get out of the way and causes it to lock up. Do not pry with a screwdriver or you will screw up your console! Both tomes I was able to firmly but not like king kong wiggle the console lid back and forth to the passenger and then the drivers side then the same while pushing down on the console lid where the latch is. This has worked without jacking up my console both times. The little weighted safety catch just needs to wour loose by eliminating the jamming. Be patient and it will come loose this way. I have almost removed the safety lock, but have not yet.

Good luck, Scott

I think I used one under each screw, I don't remember for sure. Did you get it open? I try to keep mine latched so it will kinda clearance itself, seems to work.

Here are pics of my cup holder with the trans in reverse and in 6th. If I quick shift into 6th it will slightly hit, not a problem though, you get used to it quickly.

Brethren I too have had this happen to me many times!! I have found that if you pry from the top of the latch ... ... . it will release with no issues!! One would think that you need to pry from the bottom of the latch... . which is where you will screw it up. Sounds crazy but again if you slightly pry from the top of the latch it will open / unlock very easy.

Thanks for the pictures SVick. That's exactly what I was looking for since I have a G56, and I even have the same brake switch on it. :) I will be ordering one soon. Shadrach

wcoomes-

I had to use some of mine own washers and screws... ... ... from the junk bin in my garage! ;-) Not sure if they are shipping with hardware now... ..... I ordered mine a long time ago. Note: Instead of washers I use some small nuts to extend the latch for the cup holder. Also Note: If this is the first time your installing the cup holder there is a good chance the latch will get stuck when trying to adjust your spacing. If the latch gets stuck remember to slightly pry from the top of the latch rather than from the below. I stated this earlier ... ..... and it does sound crazy but it works every time. I have installed the cup holder on the last three trucks I have had... ... it works. Good luck... ... you will love the cup holder!!!
