Current gear display

In my truck, when I switch to manual control on the transmission the gear that I have selected stays displayed even as the transmission downshifts to 1st gear. For instance, I put it into 4 and it will go no higher than 4 but 4 continues to be displayed all the way down to a stop.



My wife's Chrysler 300C displays the current gear as it downshifts and you have to upshift when starting to accelerate again. Does everyone's 68RFE work like mine?

I've always thought it would be neat to have a display showing the gear your in & if the converter is locked or unlocked. With the new transmissions, sometimes it's hard to tell if it changed gears or the converter locked/unlockd.
