Hey guys. .
My friend Gary and I have designed a new air-intake system for the first genners out there if anyone is interested in checking it out. It involves taking the old restrictive airbox we have out and running an open air K&N re-0880 with Pre-Filter along with a few other goodies to attach it to the intake side of the turbo... {in no way is this affiliated or resembling the Psycotty air system by the way} and it's just for first gen Cummins Powered Rams... if anybody is interested in seeing a picture of it. . lemme know because i can scan the pic i have and e-mail it personally to you... thanks guys. The whole setup will cost prolly around $100 and i can order the parts for you... Thanks... Greg

I would like to see a picture. I tried to upload your address but couldn't get to it. . Mine is bjdeal@frontiernet.net. Thank you.

Sound's interesting Greg. How much does it boost power and lower EGT's? Got to replace tires first but sounds like good upgrade when I get caught up.

I scanned the pic this afternoon from a macintosh, but my home computer is a PC so it doesn't read the floppy... gimme another day or so and hopefully i'll figure this out

AS far as boosting power... it may a little, mainly i've noticed a small drop in EGT's like 150 degrees... turbo spools quicker and you can REALLY hear turbo whine in the cab under full throttle... i like it

I'm curious as to how this is better. I may not understand what is happening from your description. Aren't you pulling air from the hot engine compartment instead of behind the bumper? I thought this was why it wan't beneficial to cut holes on the stock box. Was the increase in boost and reduction from a stock filter/stock box or K&N filter/stock box?

Lil'Dog /Matt S: I agree with you guys in theory but would like to see the Cummnzpowr set up anyway. My plan was to "ram" air into the airbox by runnimg an intake tube to the factory intake tube just below the airbox (probably from just under the grills lower edge). I'd have to cut an inlet for the intake tube in the lower splash panel. I'm in the process of having a new front bumper made (alumunum like the denver off raod model but lots cheaper) and as soon as I get that project finished I'll tackle the "Ram Air" project. Maybe Cummnzpowr could post pics on this thread.

guys... here's what i did... the 45 degree rubber elbow i used actually points the K&N right over the "stock" ram air duct, so that cool air {though not AS pressurized} still blows right up on the filter, yes it does get some warm engine air. . that hard not to do. And Matt S. I went from a stock air box with K&N to stock box and holes... . then to this intake ..... IF anyone knows how to post the pic on here, lemme e-mail you the file so i can get this where you guys can see it... . Thanks!!--Greg

I'm with MATT. If you could just boost the inlet to the filter box, you would realize the same or better benefits as the air filter on the first gens is HUGE.
Nice cool pressurized air is the ticket. I remember one of us had a plan to cut the front facia just under the signal light to direct frontal air directly into the box. A little rubber edging around the hole and I'm sure it would be the closest to Psychotty for us. Lots of hot underhood air isn't worth it IMHO.
