I plan on fabbing up some control arms for my truck but I can't seem to find what I need for bushings. Does anyone know of a website that lists universal/custom polyurethane two piece bushings? I'm looking for a bushing setup like the DT control arms use only Poly. Maybe DT's are poly but I'm not sure. I have searched and searched and just haven't really found what I want.

I couldn't find anything custom on the Energy site. I think I will just give DT a call today and see about getting a set of their bushings and build the arms from there. I would just buy their arms but the price is a bit high and I enjoy building stuff anyway. The lower bushing on my DT track bar is holding up well so if their control arm bushings are the same they should work fine. Thanks guys.

Wow, those Johnny joints look awesome but the price of the joint and all the other parts needed puts the price to build the arms way off the scale for me right now. I need cheap options. I plan to build the arms with either 1. 5"x2. 5" steel tube or make them out of flat like DT's. I called DT yesterday a bunch of times and can't get ahold of them. I will keep trying if I don't find anything else first. If I had a lot of mony laying around I sure would go with those Johnny joints though, they look sweet.

Here's another option. These are available from Foothill Offroad

Radius the end of your tubing and weld these to the ends. You could probably fabricate an end like that and purchase the bushings and sleeve seperately.

This is really close to the size I need for the lowers, it might have to be trimmed a tiny bit for width. The uppers are a little narrower still and use a smaller bolt but that could be drilled if needed. Anybody know what it will do to my flex to use this type of joint in all 8 positions? The DT arms are done this way so it must not be too bad. I don't do any serious offroad anyway. I still can't get DT on the phone, I wonder what they are doing. Thanks for all the help Glen and others, this is giving me more ideas and options to choose from.

Edit:After thinking about this more I'm leaning toward waiting until I have the money to use the Johnny joints on all eight locations. They have the two sizes that would be real close to what I need and they are greaseable so I wouldn't have to worry about the urethane squeaking. I would also have all the flex I wanted, which would be nice. I found that they make some without the threaded stud so I could weld them directly to whatever arm I make, which would be cheaper.

CumminsPower, I would assume you are having trouble with the bushings on your stock arms?

If so, then you should just get a set of 3rd gen arms ;) They have a MUCH improved bushing design. and you should be able to get them at a junk yard, or from a 3rd gen thats going to an aftermarket arm :D

I am going to pull my Superlift arms in favor of the 3rd gen arms...

I had a little problem a few years back where the outer shell on the bushings in a few locations were becoming loose inside the arms so I tack welded them, which solved the problem but now both bushing shells on one upper arm are cracked clear across probably from the welding. My main reason for wanting to build is because I want to make them 1/2" longer to make up for my 2" front lift and make more room for my wide wheels/tires that I will put back on when I stop the RV transporting thing. Are the 3rd gen arms a direct replacement to a 2nd gen?

Cycle the suspension if you go with the . 5" longers arms. Make sure your happy with were the axle and bumpstop meet at full bump. It will be off a little. Check it with you axle twisted up aswell.

The Skyjacker (non-adjustable) control arms for the 4. 5" lift are . 5" longer than stock. They also relocate the upper arm mount at the axle end.

For a 2" levelling kit, maybe . 25" would be better unless you WANT to kick the axle forward a hair...

Yeah, I don't know. I will have to look things over and see what it would do at . 5 longer. I just know I don't have much room at the rear of the wheel well when I have the 33x12. 5x16. 5 tires on there. I ran them ok until I put the splash guards on and then I had rubbing. Of course if I had the money I would just get a set of maybe 17" wheels that didn't stick out quite some much and it wouldn't be an issue. Oh well I probably have time to think about this since I have pretty much decided on the expensive joints... Regardless of length I need/want to put some better arms on there anyway.

Can you really swap out your 2nd gen arms for 3rd gen arms with no mods? I need to get a set for the truck I have now so if they will go right on with no mods then I will get them.

Thanks Chaz

They will slip right in :D

I had the EXACT same bushing issue as CumminsPower98 had :( I also used the EXACT same temporary fix  :D .
