What unique replacements have folks put on the gear shifter. I've always liked the Hurst shifters, but want to install something different. No X-rated suggestions please.
Here is a thread from the arkives, I have the Eaton/Fuller knob and love it , I have a switch to run my jake brake and also another for 2 wheel low range.
I also cut 4" off of the stick shift as I thought it was tooooo long, I Love it now, perfect length... ... ... ... ... . Beware if you do this that the shaft is hollow and you will need to press an insert into the shaft so you can thread it ... ... ... ... ... Kevin
I agree with Kevin and BigSaint. I have the EF knob from Bob V and love it. I'm still in the process of making it functional (have to get the exhaust brake before the switch for the brake will work!)

how do you remove the stick? How hard is this process? I do a fair amount of HWY driving and with my monkey arms like to rest them on the shifter which is now a bit too high. Thanks,
Hey Scott - hope your big dog is still doing good!
Removal of the stick is easy. I used 2 crescent wrenches. Tighten one of them on the flats of the "stub" shaft (the smaller shaft that exits top of transmission) Then I put the other wrench around the same shaft above the other wrench. When you pry the two wrenches appart, the upper wrench is forced up and gearshift lever slides up off of the stub.
(Hope this all makes sense. When you get the rubber boots off I think it will be more obvious)
I took about 4 or 5" off the top and about an inch off the bottom.
I cut off the threaded top and welded it back on after cutting out the length. I managed to put the weld under the lower edge of the shifter knob, so it's not visible. (I'm sort of a "bird poop" welder )
I love it. My kid's car seat fits in the center seat now.
you are right on the stick, as far as the shortining of the shaft what I did was first I cut 4" off of the top or knog end of the shaft and this left me with a hollow end with an aprox 1/2" hole in the end , so I took a bolt 2" x7/16 or what ever the E/F knob size required and I lathed the head of the bolt down so it would fit in the tube, I then installed it with JB weld before and after the bolt and pressed it in till I had 1" left out for the knob mounting, it works great and I Love it ... ... ..... Thanks for the input guys, I especially like that E/F knob. Just like the one in my father's Freightliner.

Was it difficult to hookup your Jacobs brake to that setup? I have the Pacbrake and simply mounted the switch to a small piece of Oak which I clamped to the stick.
Mark, it was very simple and very straight foward, I enjoyed the project, Bob gives great detail on the install and leaves no room for questions... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... I consider the E/F knob to be the most enjoyable bomb I ever did so far, however I ordered my 5" stacks and they will go on next week , then I will be Jammin Kevin
I have seen a lighted Jesus shift knob almost to the headliner that fit the curtains and dingle balls perfectly. I might be able to get some info if you want.
