2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Custom Headlights- questions

Sorry if this topic has been ridden to death, but in my searches of previous threads, most of the answers/hyperlinks are outdated.....
My question after exhaustive research on the web and different vendor sites is that I am looking for recommendations for a set of projector lenses/replacement lights for my 96 2500 extended cab. I've noticed that most reviews on the current light offerings show a deficiency in actual lighting both low and high beam. I'm not interested in what "looks cool", I need a functional headlight with projector low beam and separate hi beam that fits well in the space designed and can have either HID or LED lights as primary bulbs for hi and low beam. Dont care about halos or LED around the projectors, again its not about 'Looking Cool", its about functionality, being able to use the lights to see asphalt rats before the collision and not blinding the oncoming drivers or the drivers I follow.
What say the masses ??

Most people go with the sport headlights conversion. It uses two lamps on each side so you get four lamps on high. Your '96 will need a hole drilled for the second lamp socket. Later 2nd gen came ready for the headlights. Genos has a version of the sport headlight.

I did the sport headlight conversion on my 98, along with a the H/D head light wiring kit made by firefighter_2000. I think you can send him a PM and get all the part numbers to build your own.
I have a brite box on my 06 and the headlights aren't nearly as bright as the 98.

Has anybody tried the Retroshop.us HID Projector set up? They are pricey at $575, but my old eyes need something better than the stock set up. I don't drive my 2nd gen at night and sure would like to. I am afraid to pull the trigger for lights from many manufacturers due to bad feedback on these threads. Thanks, steve whalen

Search google for "how to build custom projector headlights". I first saw this done by a guy with a Taurus, years ago. You buy OE quality projector lights from Hella and build brackets/housings using some combination of metal, plexi, fiberglass and/or your old lights. Can make covers from original lenses, those clear aftermarket covers meant to go over your stock lights (like the GTS brand from the 80s-90s) or plexi. So the optics/lighting part is the same as modern original cars, and you've just made them fit an old truck.
