Making a 3500 DRW into a 5500

Hey I am planning on building a trailer that suits my needs. I want a flat bed goose neck trailer that is long enough to hold a small living quarter with just bed, 2 stacked bunks, a kitchen table, a bathroom with shower, air conditioning, and thats it I don't want a refrigerater, stove, kitchen sink, and half the other stuff that comes with these living quarters these days. I will be on the road for short periods of time traveling to competitions 500 miles away. I would like to be able to remove the living quarter from the flatbed trailer for more space on the trailer. I don't think a camper that fits on the bed of a pickup will look good on a flat bed gooseneck but I could be wrong. If anyone out there knows of a place that will custom build me a living quarters for my custom flatbed trailer I would greatly appreciate it. Also it might be nice if you know of a site that shows you how they make living quarters to see post it, as I may be interested in build that part too.

I have thought about doing the same. I have a very short (12 or 14ft) gooseneck that I don't use. Maybe a detachable setup would make it usefull. Post pics if you build something.

On Saturday morning there are all the car shows on TV. I can't remember what the show is called. But anyways the guy and girl on there that do all the fabricating built exactly what you are talking about to haul their jeep on. It was a custom built gooseneck with living quarters on the front and a flatbed on the back.

You can go and buy something similar right off the lot that is meant for hauling ATV's on. They built their own because they wanted more load capacity.

Long story short, they contacted the manufacturer that builds these and were able to purchase just the living quarter portion of the trailer and then set it on their trailer.

I am not sure of the manufacturer but it may have been fleetwood.

Sorry I don't have any more info. It was probably 6 months or longer since I saw that episode.

Why not just buy a used camper/trailer like an old Scotty on the trailer. Makes resale of the trailer better and if you need to use the trailer for larger loads you can take the camper off and put it back later.

it was this show http://www.powerblocktv.com/sites/xtreme/ but i don't see a list of projects to find who manufactured the unit, it was for the xtreme car hauler for behind the suburban gorilla that's not quite finished yet, it was something like a 6x6 pop up if i remember right

Why don't you take your flatbed gooseneck trailer and mount a cab over camper to the front portion of it? Its easily removeable, and will hold all you need and is self contained.

There is a company somewhere in northern Utah named Wilson camp trailers. They build alot of sheep wagon trailers for the sheep livestock industry. They build a quality unit and are nice folks too. I believe they would sell you anything or part you wanted. I don't think they are on the web. They may be located in the town of Logan. When I was a govt. trapper and looked into buying one they had a guarantee that if you decided to sell it within the first year of purchase they could get you the same amount you paid for it. I also want to build my own trailer someday. I have a neighbor who lives in a trailer he built himself. I think it is made with a unistrut frame. Inside it looks like a regular house. Outside it is sheeted with aluminum that is pop riveted to the frame. I know it has polyurathane sanwiched in the middle. It doesn't do well in July when it can get to 117 degrees here but is quite comfortable the rest of the time. This neighbor is originally from BC so you two may hit it off A? I should go visit him and post a few pics.

The camper set up is a good deal. I run that and love it. Whenever you want to upgrade sell it and plop another one on. Its fully removable and self contained.
