Sinking a ton of $ into my 94 bringing it up to ~500 hp. So now the issue is: Get a custom paint job! I know very little about such things. I saw in the Gas Monkey TV show a VERY nice paint job for $3,000, which seemed cheap to me. I don't know all the details of a paint job, but I understand there is sanding, priming, paint coat(s) and clear coats. My question is: How many paint coats should I get and how many clear coats for a pretty (not ultra-classic) paint job. The guys I talked to at the local car shows had something like three paint coats and 5 clear coats. Of course they did it all themselves. Any shops in Western NC anyone knows of? Thanks... .

Depending on the shop and their management/supervision Maaco can do some very acceptable paint. I stripped ALL the trim, bumpers, lights, everything, they did a super OK paint job on my 95 extended cab from red to Waterfall red on top, white bottom for 1,800. 00. Very little body work (no rust), I'd used a magicmarker to circle all dents, they fixed them all. Paint was a two stage epoxy, no clear.

I'm happy.
