Just wonderin if there would be any interest out there for a piece

like I made for mine. 5/8" heat treated steel with 2 "crooks" and

an aluminum knob. I just felt the factory part looked more at home

in a Neon than a Ram. Always loved those crooked as a snake

shifters in older trucks, and I did away with the rubber damper at

bottom. It will buzz if you lay your hand on it, and you can feel

the sharp edges on the jam nut at bottom of knob which is just

how I wanted it, but I am warped. Only regret is choice of AL

for knob. Looks great but cold as all heck in winter. I kept a

glove over it most of the past one. I honestly have not tried to

put a price to it, but might try to post a pic if any interest is shown.

I'd like to see what you've come up with. I've been looking for a longer and better looking shifter lever since I got my truck. I've thought about having the lever chromed and then a putting a wood-grain knob on it but I haven't taken the initiative yet. I would rather have something longer with a bend in it though.

about pictures

I've got some pictures of what I made. I can't seem to get them posted

here, and on second thought, don't want to get in trouble for misuse

of the forum. So, if anybody would like, send me an E-mail and I will

gladly send you the pictures. Thanks, Jeff

p. s. I'm open to suggestions about alternate materials/construction.

one thought is that polished stainless steel for the lever would be nice.

just tell me what you are interested in, this or any other parts

i'm interested in seeing some pic's of yours...

i've been toying with the idea of making my own shifter out of some 5/8" hex steel stock... been trying to find a good deal on some 14mm x 2. 0 coupling nuts to use as the base, but they are expensive [+$10] but i have found that there are some vehicles that use 14mm x 2. 0 wheel lug nuts, and they can be had for much less...

Now I'm going to have to get a picture of the lever and knob I made for my truck. I used some 5/8 316 stainless tubing for the lever and it is bent in a sweeping fashion in a similar pattern as this one, then I made an aluminum know similar in shape but no shift pattern, then I polished the crap out of it all on the buffing wheel. It turned out pretty nice if I do say so myself. i'll try to get a picture over the next couple of days and post them.

Can we see a picture of the shift lever position in reverse and first gears looking down from above the shifter? Also, you mentioned that you removed the rubber damper. Is it possible to leave the rubber damper in if someone wanted to? Do you seem to get a better "feel" for the trans and crisper shifts without the damper in place, or does the damper only remove vibration and have no effect on shift feel? Looks great! I too have always been fond on the bent shift levers. My 1968 Chevy 1-ton has one, and I remember that the older fords, 1984 or so, had some crazy shift levers. I always liked how they felt.

Nice job and thanks for posting!

Nice job Jeff. I might be interested as well, depending on price.

Let me know off-forum. I'll pm you with my email address.

Thanks!

Well guys, thank you for the response, special thanks to HeavyHauler for helping

me with my problem posting pictures. What I would like to do is hear from all of

you who might want one regarding material, shape, finish, etc. Hopefully we

could decide on one or two patterns that would satisfy most. If anybody has

a plating business, I would be interested in hearing from you also. Please just

bear with me, and I will post something in the classifieds soon. Send me a

message with your thoughts/ideas/wants... Jeff

Here are a couple of pictures of the one I made

Does anybody know the thread type and pitch of the shifter base where it goes onto the trans shift lever?

Thanks in advance

Jake

Mine is 14MM-2. 0, but I'm wondering myself about other years and transmissions

p. s. I am going to try to make some of these for sale, the current

holdup is R&D on a hollow tube so guys can route their ex. brake control

wires down the shaft. I'm working on it as we speak though!
