Here's a custom tailgate I'm working on for a guy. So far I have 3 days in it and I think 1 more coat of primer and a wet sand it should be ready.

Hey renegade,

How are you going to open it? This isn't a flame, but a real question. That is what I am wanting to build for my 3rd gen and I have been pondering the latch for a while. So what did you do?

Fireman

I've seen something like that on a 2nd gen around town. They moved the latch mechanism to the left side of the tailgate. It looked very nice.

Hey Fireman, no problem I didn't take it that way at all ;). Actually the guy wanted it in the back of the tailgate, so there was a little more work involved with the ribs. Tomorrow I'll try and get some pictures of the back of it.

Man - thats sweet! Its exactly what I have been thinkng about building myself. Be sure to put some final pics in your readers rigs... .

Renegade681... ... What about that update?????

Here is what I did 2 years ago... ... ... ( hope this works)

Sorry 'bout that... ... ... the picture upload didn't work. Will try again later !

Hey Renegade, I bet that would not look so good on your truck! I hope you know I'm joking, you having a flatbed and all!

Looks sweet! Good job.

LMAO NPloysa, I bet it would look pretty bad. I'm still working on my bed as soon as I get more time. GRW as soon as I get my garage cleaned up I'll take some more pictures.

renegade,

Very good job, very good!!

Don't worry about the guy and his money I've got money tell me how much and I'll buy that tailgate today. Did I say very good job?

Hey guys sorry for the delay, I started a new trade so its keeping me really busy. The guy should have the money in a month then I should have a finished picture hopefully.

Well I am trying this again!!! This is what I did two years ago. The original factory latching system is still used, only the latch handle has been changed. Total cost for the mod was about four hours and $29. 00. (That"s four hours of actual work. I spent many long days agonizing over making that first cut with the saber saw. )
