Awesome bed setup! I did a little surveying myself a couple of years after college. Changed over to boat building and Taxidermy now. Ram on

Beats that Silver Shield system. Looks like we both bleed green we it comes to equipment!

Shelby... Too kewl to mention. Very nice work! Seems all it takes is $$$ and kinda makes me wish I was a surveyor.

Thanks for all of the comments. So far I am very happy. Just got tired of trying to make other systems work.

Mongoose, I do not know how much the bed weighs, the shop was going to weigh it before installing and they forgot to. With all of my gear loaded and myself and a full tank of fuel, I am right at 8300 pounds.

Murle, If you mean the orange round object on the back, that is a water cooler. Since I don't drink, it has never had beer in it, but it has been filled with ice and non alcoholic refreshments before, and an ice cold drink is nice at the end of the day.

Snowman, I am going to guess from your comments that you must also be a surveyor. Never used the silver shield system, but did look hard a couple of times. Just wondering out loud how many surveyors are on the TDR site?

Big-D, The cost was not too bad, about $7500 and they kept the OEM bed and tailgate. I figured I would have at least 1/2 that just into some sort of canopy and shelf setup, and then I still couldn't reach stuff very well. The price included a number of custom built shelves, strobe lights in the headache rack, LED running lights on the bed, a 12VDC outlet in one of the boxes for running an inverter, lighted boxes with door and master switches, installation and wiring to include a trailer brake controller. You could get a bed built custom for your needs too, it would not have to be a surveyor specific design. I have seen several other designs they built, one for a rancher that had saddle racks built in each side. Another for pulling 5th wheels had a hitch mounted below the bed deck, so when not pulling you could put a plate over the hole and have a flatbed.

I guess I need to move up to Oregon to do some surveying. I'm definatly not making enough down here in Georgia. Business must be booming for you to pay for that rig. I wish you the best in Oregon.

Shelby, Thanks for the reply. I am in the process of making my flatbed now (alumimun)and like your idea of lighted tool boxes. Think I'll add a line from my painless wiring to light the boxes. Would you provide a little more info on the inverter for having 120VAC current would really come in handy. Now is the time for me to wire stuff like this. Thanks!
Dave

Big-D,

It is not a painless wiring kit, but I do have an additional 6 fuse block on the drivers side fire wall with a direct feed from the power distribution box. All of my circuits are wired though there. I have a bank of six lighted rocker switches mounted below the steering wheel on the knee bolster to the right of the hood release. I have a master switch for the boxes and in addition each door is switched similar to a car door. I placed a 12VDC outlet in only one box. This is a direct un- switched line from the fuse block on the fire wall. I only have a 300 watt inverter with a cigar lighter style plug. I can then plug the inverter in and have 110AC to run my equipment battery chargers or anything else. If you want a larger inverter you could wire direct and bolt it to the side of the box.

Thanks for the response for your ideas are good ones. Think I'll look around for a little larger inverter because I need to run an electric chain saw from time to time when camping. When I get my tool boxes done I'll send ya pic for I have done all the work myself. Dave
