I am replacing the ball joints on my 2001 2500. The bearings are stuck in the steering knuckles. I have the Lisle tool for use in an air hammer. I have applied penetrant liberally.

It is my understanding that the next step is to cut the ball joint studs with a torch. I am curious if anyone has cut the studs with a reciprocating saw.

I have a torch, but would avoid the fire hazard if i could.

I would not use a FIRE WRENCH on or near any of the knuckle parts. Do a Forum Search there's better ways to get it apart. I don't think a saw blade is any kind of match against ball joint studs.
