I have a 2006 1500 Ram 4 x 4 that I need to replace the front hubs. To remove the half shafts the service manuals direct you to drop the steering knuckle by removing the bottom bolt from the strut assembly and separate it from the upper ball joint. However, I was watching a youtube video done by 1-A Auto who did the procedure on a 2004. The service manuals do not alter the procedure for the different years or for the size of the truck. At any rate the A-1 guy popped the half axles off of the differential shafts and pulled the half shaft without dropping the steering knuckle. He does not appear to me to be some kind of hack.
Here is a link to the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6Fzvj9pKlI. Has anyone done it that way? It sure would save a lot of work.
