Cycling While Warming Up

What is cycling while the engine warms up? Obviously a large current draw device.



I only wish it was glow plugs like my IDI!

That would be the grid heater. It heats the intake air before it enters the intake manifold. Same purpose as glow plugs but much more trouble free. It does draw a large amount of current. That is why you can experience dimming lights and such when it is doing its thing.

And I have heard 2 different theories on driving after starting. One is to fire it up and just go, and the other is to let the grid heaters cycle a few times before dropping into gear.
