A couple months ago I had the dealer enable the high idle/ cylinder shut down feature. Well the high idle has kicked on many times but until this morning the cylinder shut down hadnt kicked in. Well I started the truck and it was around 0* so I went inside for a couple minutes. Then I heard this god awful racket comming from outside.
My first thought was somehow I must have lost all of the engine oil. I ran out and shut down the truck, checked the oil and restarted it. After a minute or so it started again. I tapped the brake and it went to normal idle and ran normal. So I realized this must me the cylinder shut down turning on. It is a VERY bad sound when this happens. It sounds like when you accidentally shift from 2nd to 5th at 15mph. Very unnerving. I'll be plugging it in from now on anytime the temp will drop below 20*
