Does anyone know a source of the DRBII, it is the scanner the Chrysler techs used to communicate with the engine computer. I have seen them on EPay, but not lately. I would like to have one for those times when trouble shooting the computer/electrical systems gets deep.

Thanks

Alan

You can find a cheap one that doesn't do anything but read the codes at Wallt World, or you can get one with all the bells and whistles that even resets the codes from Pep Boys. I would imagine the other parts houses cqarry them also. They are expensive the one with all the bells is around $200.

I don't think our trucks have OBD DRB II and I don't know if the testers are reverse compatible. Hopefully someone else can chime in on that one.

This is the one I'm talking about:

The aftermarket ones don't have the full functionality, that is what I'm after.

You are right about that.

I bought one of these (More info) yesterday. Pretty nice unit. Still won't tell you much about the transmission though. It will give you a live feed on some items. As in engine RPM, TPS %, calculated engine load, intake air temp, coolant temp, ground speed. It is capable of doing much more, if the PCM/ECM has the outputs for more.

Reads and clears any codes, too.

I don't know if it would work, I bought a couple OTC Monitor 4000E's off Ebay a year or so ago, no extra cabling or software, I actually needed the 4000 Enhanced for my Mercury Outboards, they look simular to the Mopar tool posted above.

They need software that goes into the bottom and they have a cigarette lighter plug for power and an 8 pin female connector.

If you search for OTC tools on Ebay you can probably find what you need in the way of software.

I paid $50. 00 each plus shipping for the ones I have, if you can use them I'll ship them to you for the $50. 00.

Hopefully i'm not violating the Forum guidelines, if so delete my post, just trying to help out.

I too have been keeping an eye out for a DRBII scan tool. I have the manual for troubleshooting sensors and such on my truck, but it all involves using the DRBII. Like lately I was having trouble with my engine speed sensor, but couldn't say for sure if it was the sensor or not. I didn't want to throw a 80. 00 sensor on the truck without making sure. I don't like to replace parts, I like to troubleshoot. Anyways, the speed sensor had oil and and such all over it. So tonight at work, I sprayed it real good with carb cleaner and crossed my fingers. So far, it hasn't shut my alt, cruise, and a/c down at idle. Guessing oil was shorting it out and causing the ECM to think the engine wasn't running.
