D250 Tach Question

A cousin of mine reciently bought a 1989 D250 in super condition, it's a 2WD and has the 5sp stick.

Anyone know if he can hook a tach up, he would like to keep an eye on the RPMs.

Isspro has a tach, and the hardware needed to hook it up.

It is not as easy as that on the earlier 1st Gens. The non intercooled trucks do not have the tach pickup like the later intercooled 1st Gens. I'll throw out a few that I can remember... TinyTach, alternator wired, universal tach controller (dakota digital), flywheel tooth sensor. Did I leave some out folks?

Isspro has a set for the Non I/C trucks. All you have to do is stick magnets somewhere (I don't recall at the moment) and the tach gets the information from that. I know someone with an Isspro tach on his '89 and he loves it. I'll try to get some information out of him.

The other choice is directly wired to the alternator, but it will have to be calibrated to be accurate.

You can do a search and find the instructions for hooking up to the alternator if you choose to go that way.
