What is the axleshaft spline count for a D70 in a 98 Dodge 2500HD (8800 GVWR)?

Would it be 32 spline or 35 spline? I searched and I'm seeing both. I can pull a shaft out if I really have to, but I'm trying to avoid that... (yeah I'm lazy :D )

I am seeing on one site that the 2500HD came with a hybrid D70/D80?

I'm trying to put a limited slip in the truck, and I'm not sure which I need to order.

I'm guessing 35.

Call Dodge with your VIN and/or a quality diff shop with your data tag # from the rear diff. You might also see a paper sticker around the axle tube placed for Dodge by Dana it might say 248RBI etc. You can cross reference this to your FSM (which was silent about axle spline count) to identify your specific axle.

Another very knowledgable gent on this subject is Dan @ Quad 4x4 in Montana www.quad4x4.com ?

Good luck

Andy

So your truck has an auto transmission, right? SNOKING

Yup. The hog is a D70... . The hybrid D80/70 is a D80 hog and D70 shafts right??

Now the D70 is 32 or 35 spline??

Ok I pulled a shaft out today and took a look. It's about 1. 4" and 32 spline.

D70-2U. Not sure what the 2U means, anyone know?

Well I don't know what to say. I went to Fritz's Dodge Ram Tech and Randy's Ring and Pinion. They both say 1. 5" and 35 spline for the D-70 and D-80 in the Dodge App?

I know the first gen diesel trucks are like so... 3/4 tons got the 32 spline 1. 41 axles, and the 1 ton duallies got the 35 spline 1. 5" axles.

All the old dana 70s in gassers (dodge and ford) for the most part had the 35 spline 1. 5" axles. Don't ask me why dodge with the diesels went smaller.
